19-A Idea Napkin No. 2

1.) My name is Ben Rhodes and my plan is to join Sysco food services and begin my journey as a sales rep. My goal is to work my way up through the corporation as quickly as possible and hopefully be the president of one of their locations one day. My Dad has worked there over the years and I hope to follow in his footsteps to get where he's at but quicker than he did. I'm a good salesperson already and work great with people. I'm also good at marketing so with my business concept right now we're already pulling in good coin. If I had the resources (Bigger Lot) there wouldn't be a doubt in my mind that we would expand tremendously.

2.) I am providing the service of cheap parking by opening our lot to do so.

3.) The clientele is pretty specific, and that because all of our customers are students at UF who need close and cheap parking where they can leave their cars or scoots during the day. Its open to anyone who needs a nice close-to-campus parking because thats the reason we decided to do this.

4.) It's not a difficult concept and its easy for the customers to choose. Either you want cheap parking that really close to the main campus and all of midtown or you don't. Theres thousands of people who pay for overpriced parking permits so when some college kids like us need a cheaper place they can select our service instead for a fraction of the price.

5.) The main thing that sets us apart from other places in the area is the low price we offer. We understand how expensive everything is here in Gainesville so we decided to prepare our home to be a local attribute that could potentially help kids save a good amount of money.

Summary: My feedback was good and i'll continue to be open to suggestions from anyone, but most likely this will be a part-time gig. It'd be nice if this thing blew up and we got really rich from this but in reality I think the Sysco route remains the number one choice... for the moment. And the person who replied couldn't agree more and told me how she is constantly frustrated because parking here is so difficult. So it was nice to have someone who completely agrees with what I am doing and encourages me to keep doing what Im doing.

  1. Hey Ben. I thinks it's excellent that you've identified your competitive advantage in the surrounding UF parking market and the fact that you've also mentioned that you're going at it like it's a part time gig. Knowing your limits on this business is important because you can set the appropriate amount of effort in growing the parking business while pursuing your more valued route with Sysco.

  2. Hey Ben, I agree this might only be a thing to do in college. I mean unless you plan on purchasing the house you and your roommates live in after you move away for your professional career. But in reality it is a part time gig that you could maybe pass on to the next generation roommates of the house your at. I like how you think about those things rather than being unrealistic, which I kinda worry about my goals being unrealistic. Only the future knows the truth though.
